I've long held a theory on "IQism": most people think that their own level of intelligence is as high as it can get - people who they deem to have less intelligence than themselves are labelled "dumb" and those with more are labelled "geeks / freaks/ boffins" and are seen to be high on academic smarts and low on common sense. I have a high IQ. I have a PhD. On paper, I'm bloody brilliant. But I make stuffups all the time ... and I try to learn from them. But who's to say that my brand of "smarts" would get me far in non-western culture? (Most of what we call IQ is based on western (largely American) culture.
