Transplant success
When I first met MIML™ he laughed that I had paid in the past to have extra RAM installed on computers and also larger hard drives. Little did I know that MIML™ collects RAM, cables, hard drives, chips and all sorts of electronic stuff.
My first gift from MIML™ was some more RAM for Matilda (my Macbook.) He even let me put it in myself. And it made a difference going from 1GB to 2GB. RAM is kinda like the caffeine that helps the computer run- it powers and stimulates the brain. A short while later he bought a 2GB SODIMM and we inserted that into one of the slots giving me 3GB. This was like having a triple shot short black- it really gave Matilda some grunt.
Then I decided to import most of my CDs into Matilda. This came to about 36GB worth that was taking up valubale memory. Soon I was told that my hard drive was full. It was like it had eaten and eaten and could eat no more. Or perhaps more like the heart was clogged with colesterol. I mean some of what Matilda had eaten was crap and she retained a lot of it too.
So MIML™ to the rescue. This time he bought Matilda a new Hard Drive or a new heart perhaps. So we went from a 120GB hard drive to a 200GB one. Of course with the Time Capsule he gave me for my birthday this was a very easy task.
I was amazed at how the old heart slipped out and the new one just plugged in. Restoring from the Time Capsule was easy (after I worked out that I needed to do it from the OS disk) and we are running.
This heart won’t be around for long though. It is merely phase 1 to work out if it is more responsive. I have imported all of MIML™s music collection now and have almost doubled my music collection to 74GB. Yes, a lot of that is duplicates and I will at some stage go through and delete…
We have partitioned the new heart so that I can experiment some more with Linux (I mean what would I do with Windows after all!)
MIML™ is now talking a 500GB hard drive, but we are waiting for a 7,200RPM one with a fall sensor. That will be here in the next month or so one would think.
Mega thanks to MIML™- you rock! You may tease me for being Mac Girl, but deep down you are envious, I know ![]()

Go Fiona!
I am thinking of doing the same thing - well, the RAM anyhow - my MBP gets a little stuttery sometimes playing Spore.
Note to self: must get Time Capsule!
